Playsystem

PlaysystemYour character,  the abilities and how to become stronger
In an RPG where fighting is not that unusual, it is important to have a measurable system that determines how strong a character is compared to other characters. In this thread you'll find everything you need to progress and how to use the system.

ExperienceThis is the required currency in order to improve the strength of your character. You gain it by writing posts, finishing adventures, plots and events.
There is also a basic income, which will generate experience on a weekly basis.

Weekly Income: 25 Exp (distributed every Monday)
Per Post: 10 Exp (5 Exp in Flashbacks)
Plots/Events/Adventures: pro rata

Character PoolsIn order to make the play a bit less linear, there will be a pool of all active characters. Once a certain limit is achieved, it will unlock a new slot of a character of higher rank (e.g. C instead of D). There will be an application process, where the best character concept will be chosen and given that said slot.
Rule of Thumb: 10 D Ranks unlock 1 C Rank, whereas E Rank is considered as 2 D Rank characters. 10 C Rank unlocks 1 B Rank. A Rank and S Rank are not available from the beginning. Characters that achieve a higher rank inRPG still count as their starting rank.

C Rank: 2/10 D & E
B Rank: 1/10 C

Character RanksDetermine the power level
The rank of your character is determined by two factors: the traits and the techniques. Which means the higher the rank, the stronger your character. This value is an indication if you should pick a fight with someone or not.
The basic rules of thumb is: characters on the same rank are equal opponents. A fight between characters with one rank difference is rather one-sided for the stronger character, however with help, right conditions or simply luck a fight can still be won by a weaker character. However if the rank is more than two, the weaker character is going to lose in a fight on its own.

Examples:

Rank EThis rank is specifically for characters that do not fight. Therefore, special conditions apply to this rank. The character can have only one perk that is not related to fighting abilities, however it can be an ability that wouldn't be viable in a fight, e.g. foreseeing the future.
This rank is specifically for characters that can't fight, emphezize on can't not won't. This rank applies to all children under the age of 6 and to special cases of being disabled.
It is possible to upgrade from this rank, but it means that special traits might get lost.
Traits: 3 (faction, race, language) +1 (non-fighting)
Techniques: N/A

Rank DMost character starts on this rank. It compares to a character that had a few fights in life but is not a skilled fighter. They might know how to wield a basic weapon like a sword. Probably a basic soldier, known by comerades and his direct commander.
Traits: 3 (faction, race, language) +1 (of any kind)
Techniques: 1
Requirements: 3/4
Fight Tier: 2x Wins or 5x Participations.
Event Tier: 2x Adventure Participations.
Trait Tier: Own 5+ Tiers.
Exp Tier: Have 500 Exp accumulated.

Rank CIn a few cases a character can start on this rank. A character on this rank is considered a decent, experienced fighter. They fought many battles and knows what matters to win a fight. Also, they can wield a group of weapons, not like a master but they understood the basic concept of e.g. all cutting weapons from swords to daggers. People already might have heard the name of the character in some context.
Traits: 3 (faction, race, language) +3 (of any kind)
Techniques: 2
Requirements: 3/5
Fight Tier: 5x Wins or 10x Participations.
Event Tier: 5x Adventure Participations.
Travel Tier: Visit 2 or more countries.
Trait Tier: Own 10+ Traits.
Exp Tier: Have 1000 Exp accumulated.

Rank BCharacters on this rank are considered dangerous towards common people. They are capable of many things a normal human being wouldn't be able to survive. They know their weapon of choice by heart and can wield other weapons quite decent as well. They are known in their country of operation.
Traits:3 (faction, race, language) +5 (of any kind)
Techniques: 2 +1 Ultimate
Requirements: 4/6 (Event Tier is mandatory)
Fight Tier: 10x Wins or 20x Participations.
Event Tier: 10x Adventure Participations.
Travel Tier: Visit 3 or more countries.
Trait Tier: Own 20+ Traits.
Exp Tier: Have 2500 Exp accumulated.
Special Tier: Have all Requirements of the ranks below.

Rank AOn this rank a character made it to the top. They are almost impossibly to defeat. This character is known over the borders of his country of operation.
Traits: 3 (faction, race, language) +7 (of any kind)
Techniques: 4
Requirements: 5/6 (Fight Tier is mandatory)
Fight Tier: 25x Wins or 50x Participations.
Event Tier: 25x Adventure Participations.
Travel Tier: Visit 4 or more countries.
Trait Tier: Own 25+ Traits.
Exp Tier: Have 5000 Exp accumulated.
Special Tier: Have all Requirements of the ranks below.

Rank S This level of strengh is beyond human understanding and only in very rare cases achievable. They are considered immortal and are probably known in most parts of the world.
Traits: 3 (faction, race, language) +12 (of any kind)
Techniques: 5
Requirements: 7/7
Fight Tier: 50x Wins or 100x Participations.
Event Tier: 50x Adventure Participations.
Travel Tier: Visit 5 or more countries.
Trait Tier: Own 35+ Traits.
Exp Tier: Have 10000 Exp accumulated.
Special Tier: Have all Requirements of the ranks below.

Traitswhat makes your character unique
Traits are a unique way to build up your character. They are strength and weakness at once, always giving an advantage or ability but also add constraints toward it. They are separated in different groups, such as race, faction, language, weapons and magic.

Race related Traits These traits are defined by the race your character inherits. You can choose only one perk. If your character is a mutt of two races, you can still choose only one or define a unique perk that is defined by being a mixed race.

Name:
Type:
Description:

Faction related TraitsThese traits are a requirement for every character. You can choose only one. You can take one of the basic perks or write your own.

Name:
Type:
Description:

Language related TraitsThis group of traits refer to the ability to speak and understand certain languages. This can be a dead language, like High Shuriman, strong dialects or simply the ability to speak more than one language. The "common tongue" is Noxian in most parts of the world, additionally to the native language. You can have one perk for free at the beginning.

Name: Va-Nox
Type: Language
Description: This character is able to communicate in Va-Nox, the most common language spoken not only in Noxus but also in northern parts of Shurima, Piltover and Zaun, most parts of Valoran like southern and eastern Freljord, and eastern Demacia. Some people in Bilgewater speak it too, as well as south-eastern Ionia.

Weapon related TraitsThese traits go hand in hand with your fighting style or behavior in a fight. If you use a certain type of weapons, e.g. swords, you need a perk for the advanced usage of such weapons. The weapon itself is included in the trait as well.

Name:
Type:
Description:

Magic related TraitsSimilar to the weapons trait, the magical traits are for certain types of magic that your character is able to use. This could be a type of element, for example fire or water. Or spirit magic, such as necromancy or shadow magic. Tomes fall also under this category.

TechniquesUnique abilities of your charactery
These techniques are special moves, magical or physical, that your character knows and which are his/her signature moves.
You can have up to five of them, whereas one is your ultimate ability. A technique is much stronger than the other abilities. They have to match the character's general fighting style and should not be arbitrary. Normal punches or sword strokes do not fall under this category. Techniques are divided into 2 levels: Your regular signature abilities and your ultimate ability.

Signature MovesA technique like this can often make the difference in a fight. Use them strategically and smart, as they cost a lot of stamina. Each of them can be used twice per fight and even a third time, if you decide not to use your ultimate ability.

Ultimate AbilityThe ultimate techniques are the absolute finishers and the strongest attacks of a character. If you use them, the fight at this point is usually over. Because either the enemy is defeated by the attack, or the enormous energy consumption leaves your character only a few posts conscious. They should, therefore, be used carefully and at the end of the fight. Regardless of how much stamina you have, you can use them once in combat, after which you will not be able to fight much anymore.

Techqniue SlotsEach Character Rank determines how many techniques a character can have:
Rank E: N/A
Rank D: 1 signature move
Rank C: 2 signature moves
Rank B: 2 signature moves + 1 ultimate ability
Rank A: 3 signature moves + 1 ultimate ability
Rank S: 4 signature moves + 1 ultimate ability

TipsHow to have a proper fight
As it may happen that someone has trouble fighting, here are a few tips to help you. It starts with making sense in your post and expressing yourself in a way that the opponent understands what you mean. With many complicated and interlaced sentences, your opponent often does not know what is meant and can, therefore, react incorrectly. So if this is the case and you do not fully understand what the opponent means, the first step is to write them and try to clarify. So be sure to describe everything in detail without formulating it in the complicated. The situation and also things like the environment can be crucial and therefore should always be in your post.

Another point that can often cause confusion in battles is to take too many actions in a post. The problem that exists here is, for the most part, that the adversary has your first action, e.g. an attack cancelled or blocked - with this everything else of the post will be ignored like it never happened. It is therefore always advisable to react to the opponent at the beginning of the post and then to start an attack or a simple combo. A good way is to write shorter posts which focus more on action and environment.

Please keep in mind that this is a fictional world, where logic and physics do not always match the real world. Therefore, it makes no sense to use any mathematical formulas or the like. This is seemingly often forgotten and constantly avoided in battles, which greatly reduces the tension and also makes the fight lose credibility because in this world, of course, you hold out much more and seemingly deadly things, like a fall or a strong attack end only in injuries. Especially with a higher level of strength, the character's resilience gets higher and higher, so you can keep things going. So do not be afraid to get hit!
